R A G – A N T I R A G G I N G

This story has been written on behalf of my experience and those shared and felt among my friends during ragging. This is punch lined “fake” because it is my belief on the tradition of ragging, but might be possible that it may coincidently go “true”. This story is liable to change in future by the others who better going to experience ragging.

Ragging is a bitter experience felt by every beginner of college. It is a tradition in the culture of college, whether the college is a principle of Engineering or Medical stream. I don’t know who else have pondered over the matter, that how this ragging begins and has become an important part of college life, but I suspect a suitable reason behind it. So now let the story go….

As it is clear, that engineers and doctors enjoy reputated status in the society, hence its education and the institutions serving the purpose, too are worthy of respect. Admissions to these institutions, after qualifying tough competitive exams successfully, is a matter of achievement to the students, which sometimes make the students proudy. In the earlier session of the college itself that leads to dishonor of elders and other dignitaries. In their succeeding session a new creamy layer fills the blank of their requisite position. Now the formers are called “seniors” while the later, “juniors”. The Seniors may be curious to know the steps of their success and familiarize with their opinions. This conversation might have taken place in an interrogative manner. Consequently, as the two creamy layers are face to face and proudy in their achievements, breaking the limitations of seniors and juniors, their might be clashes and a situation of tension or fight. Due to the guts and power of seniors the juniors were beaten. As for juniors seniors are to be respected, hence it was the fault of juniors. The college too supported seniors. This activity was then termed as “ragging”. Nowadays, colleges are known by the ragging, the quality and reputation of the college depends on the extent of ragging. It has been a common motto that- “The more is the ragging” the better is the college”. Hence, its better for the juniors to accept it as their destiny at the expense of good college.

There can be found similarities between a new vehicle and a junior. These are highlighted as-

“As vehicle has to synchronize with its owner by giving good performance, a junior too has to impress senior with its quality;

At servicing vehicle is made smooth using metallic tools, ragging is the tool that senior uses to frank the shy juniors;

Ragging recrystallizes the character and brings about smartness in juniors.”

The hostellers are too dynamic to catch the tuning of seniors that there establish a cousins-like relation between a senior and junior. They both there have to face worldly consequences dealing with the situation lonely. This further deepens their mutual understanding and a caring behavior for each other.

True seniors are always helpful and cooperative to the juniors, hence they are elder brothers and sisters like to juniors.

Their torture is time being, but very harsh and lasts for an year with hidden lessons to be perceived. The ragging re-characterizes the junior for life long happenings. That’s why this topic holds the title “Rag –Anti Ragging.
